Kai's Ohana Shave Ice and Creamery | Our Story

A family dream from Hawaii
Kai's Ohana Shave Ice and Creamery is a family-owned Hawaiian-inspired dessert shop at 738 San Benito St, Hollister, CA 95023. Our story began with a family trip to Hawaii that changed the way we saw food, family, and the joy of sharing time together.

Inspired by the spirit of Hawaii
Peter and his family saved for years to take their first trip to Hawaii. When they came home, they wanted to share that same feeling with others. We did not start this business just to sell dessert. We wanted to create a small place where people could feel like they were on island time.

The meaning behind Kai's Ohana
The name tells our story. “Ohana” means family. Kai is our son Ezra's middle name. This is our family business in every sense. My wife is at the heart of it. Her warmth, kindness, and way of making people feel welcome are a big part of what Kai's Ohana is all about.

From farmers markets to Hollister
We started small at local farmers markets and slowly found our way to our shop in Hollister. For nearly 11 years, we have worked through good times and hard ones. We kept going because we believed in what we were building: a place where families could come together and enjoy a taste of Hawaii.

Authentic Hawaiian-inspired shave ice in Hollister
We are proud to offer more than a typical snow cone. Our shave ice, island flavors, ice cream, condensed milk, coconut, and li hing mui are part of an experience rooted in Hawaiian food traditions. We want to honor that inspiration while sharing it with our community in Hollister.

Bringing Ohana to you
Our family business also travels. With our catering trailer and Kona coffee trike, we can bring shave ice and coffee to events across Hollister, Monterey, San Jose, and beyond. Whether you visit our shop or invite us to your event, we want to bring the same aloha with us.

Why visit Kai's Ohana?
Come to Kai's Ohana Shave Ice and Creamery for more than a sweet treat. Come for finely shaved Hawaiian shave ice, island-inspired flavors, homemade-roasted Kona coffee, and the feeling of being welcomed by a family that truly cares. We hope you leave with a smile and a memory worth sharing.
